HOW TO USE SKALE TRACKER UNDER CUBASE (VSTi VERSION)
(This tutorial can also be applied to other midi sequencers)

- Installation -

First of all we will have to copy the files from the Skale Tracker distribution archive into the Vstplugins directory.

1) Create a new "Skale" folder in the cubase plugins directory (Vstplugins), and copy all Skale Tracker files and folders into the "Skale" folder (see Image1)

2) After copying the files, run the Skale Tracker config program (ConfigSk@le077.exe) and choose your preferred options. Disabling Fullscreen mode is highly recommended to run Skale Tracker properly under cubase (see Image2). This will allow Skale Tracker to run in window mode .

Quote.- All sound device options are ignored by Skale Tracker VSTi version, so you dont need to take care of them.

3) Copy the SkaleVSTi.dll file into the Vstplugins main folder.

You are ready to run Cubase now. The first time you will notice that Skale appears and disappears.... dont worry... that's working OK.

- How to load Skale into Cubase -

You should activate the "play in background" option first. This will allow VST plugins to continue working when you click on a window from another program. Otherwise sound will halt when you select another program. (see Image3).

Quote.- This option is not needed for modern sequencers (SX2, Nuendo... )

Click on VSTinstruments panel (Panels->VSTInstruments, see Image4). A VSTinstrument box will appear (see Image5).

Click on a free slot  ("No VST Instrument"). A folder tree will appear showing all VSTi instruments installed under your Vstplugins folder. You will notice that SkaleVSTi is there (see Image6). Select SkaleVSTi and the Skale Tracker main window will appear.

In the VSTInstruments window, you can turn on/off SkaleVSTi by clicking on the red box on the upper-left.
(See Image7).

We are ready to use Skale now :-)

- Usage -

Skale's position slaves to the transport position in cubase and is based off cubase's master tempo. That means you will not be able to change BPM under Skale. Fortunately you are able to continue using Speed changes under Skale.
This works in following way:

Cubase song position is denoted by 4 numbers (see Image8). Each increase of  first Cubase number means 96 ticks under Skale. Thus, using the default Skale speed (6), each increase of  the first cubase number makes our Skale song move forward 16 Rows.
In example, using Speed 6, from Cubase position 0.1.1.0 to 1.1.1.0, our Skale song moves forward 16 Rows, (using Speed 3 will move forward 32 Rows).

- Saving data -

Skale tracker will automatically save all data into the working cubase file (.all file).
If you load Cubase file afterwards, the SkaleVSTi window will load automatically, along with the rest of the data (patterns, samples, instruments....)

That´s all folks. Enjoy!!!
