----------------------- | Noiseripper v.1.1 | ----------------------- by Kiwidog of Terraformer Documentation ------------- I don't know why I included a docs file with this program, because it's really self-explanatory. Noiseripper takes any .S3M (Scream Tracker 3.0 Module) and disects the song's many samples at your request. This is useful since at the moment not many trackers support the .S3M format (at the time I wrote this, I wasn't aware of ANY that supported this format), and so it becomes rather difficult to get the samples used in these modules. Noiseripper starts off by telling you how many slots the module has reserved for samples. Not all of them are used - some are just blank entries where the author wrote a bit of text. For each slot, Noiseripper will give you the text in that slot (usually the name of the sample), and it will tell you whether a not a sample is actually in that slot. If a sample is there, it will ask you if you want to extract it. Pressing Y will prompt the program to ask you for a filename to save the sample under. The samples are saved in unsigned .RAW format, so it is suggested that you use that extension when saving these. If you want to use them as .SAMs (Amiga signed format) you'll have to add 128 to each byte to convert the sample. Utilities like CSAMP and SIGNSWIT can do this for you. If you extract the sample, Noiseripper will give you the loop data for that sample which was used in the .S3M it came from. It gives you the starting byte, ending byte, and length (end-start). If you get 0/0, then no loop was specified. Thanks go to Future Crew's Purple Motion and Skaven for having such great samples in their music. If it weren't for them, there would have been no reason to write this program. If you want to contact me or any of the other members of Terraformer, you can reach us at Internet: kiwidog@vt.edu - or - charg@scrapyard.async.vt.edu Don't be surprised if the first address doesn't work. Our vt.edu server has been having problems recently. If that happens, use the second address. However, the second address is only valid until May 11th, 1994. You can also reach us by turtle express, or conventional mail as some people like to call it. Happy sampling! - Kiwidog
